The Concept

This video shares similarities with "i fink your freaky" (colour scheme) as well as some of the visuals seen in Little Mix "move" and Rihanna "this is what you came for". The concept for the female artist is to create her in a dark and mysterious way as our video is meant to be a transformation from good girl - to bad girl. this follows the idea of other female artists currently popular such as Miley Cyrus. it includes visual stimulating images with weird shapes and continuos lights throughout the whole piece as well as two support dancers who create a movement representation of the edge vibe.

Developing the Idea

We have also decided that we are going to remove the drums from our initial pitch due to logistical reassons and also we feel they may be out of place, from today's meeting we think that a sort of pixilation

Feedback from our pitch

Today we pitched our music video to Luke and James (our teacher). First, we played them our song and then carried on with our 'Pitch' presentation. The feedback that they gave us was that our initial idea doesn't actually have much to it, they meant that we had thought about a lot of visual images but hadn't actually thought about how it would all fit together as a whole. They then gave us the idea to incorporate a letter box into our video, and possibly make it so that at some point the main singer is standing in front of it - this would give it an interesting divide between what is happening in the actual scene and what she is doing. From our concept, they thought that the actual song is more powerful than the main singer. They also told us that we need to think of what progression we would have throughout the video, as currently in our concept they didn't there was any. However, they liked that we are looking into the colour scheme very thoroughly and to keep on looking into the dark and grungy side of the video which they thought would amplify it.

Meeting Emily!

Today we had a talk from Emily Tedrake , who is a video commissioner at Universal Music Group. They work at Polydor Records, which is a company within UMG that is based in the UK. The company has been very successful with the artists that they sign for their videos, starting with Take that and going to the Rolling Stones, Florence and the Machine.. etc. Emily herself has commissioned 14 music videos so far.

Emily Tedrake's job consists of having an artist come to her with a request for a music video, she hears out the track and potentially the concept that they want. After this, she sends out a brief to the directors that she would think would suite the artist and then puts them together.

Below are a couple of points that Emily spoke to us about:

- When the artist knows what they want to do with the video, it makes her job a lot simpler, as this means that she will only have to adapt the idea and possibly make a few changes to it.

- In Polydor Records, their usual budget is from 5K to 200K.

- They would shoot the music video from one to two days usually, however the whole process until the video is ready to publish on either youtube or vimeo would be 1-2 months.

- Emily and would have to cooperate with the artist or their manager in order to get a sense of the type of video and what elements they want and only after that they need to produce a treatment. A treatment consists of an overall concept of the video and images that relate to what they want the video to look like.

Here are some videos that she comissioned :

Final Song Choice

YOU & ME (BAAUER REMIX)
I’ll be giving up, oh
Home is where the heart is,
And I gave it to you in a paper bag
Even though it’s tarnished
You told me it’s the best you ever had
You got my secret combination
And I don’t be giving that out easily
With my deepest dedication
You can tell that you were brought the same for me

So please don’t let go, cause you know exactly what we found
So please don’t let go my darling
You keep me locked up underground
It’s gonna be you and me
It’s gonna be everything you’ve ever dreamed
It’s gonna be who and me
It’s gonna be everything and everything, we’re meant to be
We’re meant to be

Rolling with the punches
So they won’t get inside our happiness
Love is always hunted,
But your arrows are soaring through my chest
Cause you know you give me something
Yeah you give me exactly what I need
Got my blood pumping
You know you always draw more blood, I bleed

In you’re big house on the hills
Where you keeá¹— your dollar bills
And you stashed my heart
Somewhere in the dark
Keep it safe I know you will
Know you will, know you will
Know you will
I know you will

Spliting up into groups

Last lesson my teacher got my class to do a small exercise which would help us briefly understand the type of ideas everyone had. We were moving around the classroom from chair to chair, very similar to 'speed dating'. At the end of this activity I we were all able to put ourselves into groups of four, depending on the ideas that we thought would be interesting to explore.

My group consisted of Haydon, Eloise, Ben and me. We decided to present each of our ideas with a bit more detail and the music accompanying it, so that we could get a better feel. During the lesson we had decided that it would be best to cut down all of our 12 ideas into 4.

Below are a couple of songs that we decided to keep in order to think about.
